When "fen" just won't cover it.
This is a British term for a bog covering undulating semi-uplands, such as bogs of cool temperate regions formed under a maritime rainfall at lower elevations, or bogs on hills developed under high rainfall and low temperatures as in southeastern Alaska.
Alternate names: Fen, Mire.
Mire is a nice word. It can't be mistaken for anything else. And there's only the one syllable to remember as you sink.
